At Srimathi Devkunvar Nanalal Bhatt Vaishnav College for Women, we believe in giving, celebrating, learning, and growing together. Every initiative we take is a step toward building a stronger, more compassionate, and empowered community. Because here, at the heart of everything we do, is the belief that when we lift each other up, we all rise.
Daan – The Joy of Giving
Giving is not just an act; it is a feeling one that brings immense joy to both the giver and the receiver. At SDNB, this philosophy comes to life through “Daan Utsav,” a week-long celebration of kindness and generosity from October 1 to October 8, 2024.
During this special week, the college came together to make a meaningful impact through various initiatives such as Tree Plantation, Street Play (Say No to Plastics), Joy Fest, Collection Drive, Fistful of Joy, Clean-up Drive, and Menstrual Hygiene Awareness. Each event reflected our deep commitment to the environment, sustainability, and social well-being.
With the wholehearted support of our management, faculty, and students, these initiatives brought smiles to elderly citizens, provided food and support to underprivileged children, extended companionship to the physically challenged, and empowered women with knowledge about menstrual health. Through these heartfelt efforts, students not only embraced compassion and social responsibility but also discovered the true fulfilment that comes from giving back to the community.
Beyond these initiatives, the college continues to stand by its students by offering fee concessions and scholarships to those in need, ensuring that financial challenges never become a barrier to education.
HasthKaushal – The Art of Skill & Creativity
In today’s fast-paced world, being versatile and adaptable is key to success. At our college, we believe that education goes beyond textbooks, which is why the SDNB Centre for Skill Development offers an array of skill-based courses designed to nurture creativity, enhance employability, and inspire entrepreneurship.
From the intricate beauty of Tanjore Painting and Aari Work to the precision of Block Printing and Jute Art, and the hands-on expertise in Baking and the Usha Silai Project, these courses provide students with practical skills, creative confidence, and industry-ready knowledge.
Through these programs, students gain more than just technical skills they cultivate a sense of self-reliance, turning their passions into potential career paths. By bridging the gap between education and employment, SDNB empowers students to dream, create, and succeed.
Harsh – Celebrating Togetherness
There is something truly magical about coming together to celebrate traditions, share laughter, and create memories. At our college, festivals are not just occasions; they are cherished moments that strengthen our bonds as a community.
With great enthusiasm, the college celebrates events like Food Sharing Day, Color Day, and Ethnic Day, where students and faculty come together in vibrant spirit. The annual Pongal competitions fill the campus with excitement, as students showcase their talents and embrace their cultural roots.
On Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Remembrance Day, the college paid a heartfelt tribute to the beloved scientist and former President through a drawing competition held on July 29 and 30, 2024.
The spirit of unity and pride was further celebrated on Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, dedicated to honouring tribal freedom fighters. Students were deeply inspired by presentations on Bhagwan Birsa Munda and our President, Smt. DroupadiMurmu, reminding us all of the strength and resilience of our nation’s tribal communities.
In our college, celebrations are more than just events—they are moments that bring us closer, enrich our experiences, and create a sense of belonging that lasts a lifetime.
Daya
At SDNB, we believe that no student should ever have to study on an empty stomach. With this in mind, the college launched the “Goodwill Meals” program a heartfelt initiative that provides free meals to students from low-income backgrounds.
Introduced on July 15, 2023, in honour of the 120th birth anniversary of Karma VeerarKamarajar, this program ensures that students in need have access to nutritious, wholesome meals throughout their academic journey. The initiative was inaugurated by Tmt. Vijayalakshmi, Retired Assistant Accounts Officer from the Office of the Accountant General (A&E), Chennai.
In addition to free meals, the college also provides subsidized meal options, ensuring that financial hardships never stand in the way of a student’s well-being.
Through Daya, the college reaffirms its commitment to nurturing not just minds, but also hearts-ensuring that every student feels supported, cared for, and empowered to achieve their dreams.
