Standards Club

Vision:
The Standard club, an initiative of the BIS is a step towards amassing the power of youth towards spreading awareness on the importance of quality standards. Governmental partnership with academic institutions provides substantial benefits for the community. A partnership of this kind is significant to expose students to industry level conformity assessments and basis of quality certifications for goods and services.
Mission:
- The club will lead the ‘Standards’ work amongst students and faculty in the campus by conducting multiple potential programs and events.
- Planning of Innovative and interactive programmes to motivate the students to participate in the various activities both in college and the community.
- To motivate students to continue learning Quiz contests, competitions such as writing standards, essay writing, poster presentation, on the significance of BIS are planned.
- Standard club will encourage the student fraternity to think out of the box while enabling them to formulate standards for emerging standardization needs.
Objectives:
- To impart knowledge and reorient attitudes of youth generated from students for individual growth and national interest.
- To inculcate standards of culture and to sensitize the young professionals on the impact of standards on life and society.
- To help young professionals select a career in the industry to enable and appreciate the importance of standards and introduce them to initial concepts of national and international standards and to encourage them to take active interest and participate in standard works.
Outcome:
Students get a platform to acquire knowledge of global trends within the industry. In the process and get a better understanding of the market development in different parts of the world.

Poster Making Competition Report
Report:Poster making competition was conducted by the Standards Club in IT block, Room No: M15 from 11:00 am to 12.00 noon . In this competition, students from various departments participated to present their picture advertisement as poster. For this competition, the judge , Dr G. Hari Hara Priya from PG Department of Chemistry. The topic was Consumer awareness and its Standards. The participants should come up with a poster making and they have to explain about the awareness about the product and its standards. Finally, the judges selected three winners from the participants.Winners of Poster Making Competition :

Industry Visit

Overview of Manna Health FoodsManna Health Foods specializes in producing a variety of nutritional products, including millet-based foods, health mixes, and dietary supplements. The company’s mission is to deliver wholesome, natural, and preservative-free products to consumers. Key Highlights of the Visit

The visit began with a presentation by the Manna Health Foods team, detailing the company’s history, mission, and product range. The team emphasized the importance of adhering to BIS standards to ensure product quality and consumer safety. - Factory Tour:
Participants were taken on a guided tour of the production facility. The following areas were observed:- Raw Material Procurement and Quality Checks: Ensuring raw materials meet BIS specifications.
- Processing Units: Demonstrating the production of health foods, including mixing, milling, and packaging processes.
- Quality Assurance Laboratory: Testing products to ensure they meet regulatory and safety standards.
- Hygiene and Safety Practices:
The visit showcased the stringent hygiene protocols followed in the facility, including sanitation procedures, employee training, and equipment sterilization. - Sustainability Initiatives:

Report: Elocution on Identified Subjects competition was conducted by the Standards Club in IT block, Room No: M15 from 1:00 pm to 2.00 pm . In this competition, students from various departments participated to deliver a prepared speech or recitation to demonstrate their communication skills. The goal is to present the speech with clarity, confidence, and effective. For this competition, the judge,Dr G.Rajasudha from PG Department of Physics. The topic was Elocution on Identified Subjects. The participants should come up with a prepared speech and they have to explain about the Standards for environmental sustainability-Reducing carbon footprint. Strength of the ProgramA speech can educate the audience on how everyday actions, like energy consumption or transportation choices, contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. A well-crafted speech can inspire individuals, businesses, and governments to adopt practices that reduce their carbon footprint, such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, or adopting renewable energy sources. A speech on environmental sustainability, focusing on reducing the carbon footprint, is essential because it drives awareness, action, and long-term solutions, while highlighting the shared responsibility we all have to ensure a livable planet for future generations.Program Outcome:On conducting elocution in this topic the audience will have a greater understanding of how their daily activities contribute to the carbon footprint and will be more aware of the importance of adopting sustainable practices. Audiences will understand the role of carbon reduction in mitigating climate change and preserving ecosystems. The speech will encourage individuals, companies, and policymakers to adopt and prioritize sustainability. This might involve changes like switching to renewable energy, reducing waste, using eco-friendly transportation, or implementing sustainable business practices.

The digital poster presentation aimed to create awareness about the importance of Indian standards in various industries, foster a deeper understanding of Indian standards and their applications and inspire students to think creatively about the role of standards in shaping the future of industries. The event provided a platform for students to share their
understanding of Indian standards, promoting a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration. The students 39 hard work paid off, as they won prizes in the digital poster presentation, demonstrating their knowledge and creativity.

Report National Consumer DayStandard writing Essay competition was conducted by the Standards Club in IT block, Room No: M15 from 12:00 Noon to 01.00 pm on 03.1.2025. Writing encourages and enhances critical thinking, creative thinking and helps in organising thoughts and improve communication skills. In this competition, students from various departments participated. For this competition, the judge was Dr. Indira from PG Department of Chemistry. The topic was Helmet. The students have to write an essay in this topic covering scope, Impact Absorption Test, Resistance-to-penetration Test, Rigidity test, references, packing and packaging, marking and BIS certification marking. The participants enthusiastically participated in this competition. Finally, the judges selected three winners from the participants.Consumer Awareness about Standards
Report Consumer Awareness about StandardsAn orientation program on Consumer Awareness about Standards was conducted on 27/12/2024 at Seminar Hall 1. The program aimed to educate students about the importance of standardization, quality assurance, and consumer rights. It was organized by the Standards Club (BIS).Objectives: The key objectives of the program were:
- To raise awareness about national and international standards.
- To educate students on their rights and responsibilities.
- To highlight the role of standardization in ensuring product safety and quality.
- To promote the adoption of certified products and services.
Activities 2025-26
Report:
The Standards Club (Bureau of Indian Standards) in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) successfully organized an event titled “Standards League” on 05 February 2026 at 11:30 a.m. onwards in the M29 IT Block. The program was conducted exclusively for BIS Club student members with the objective of creating awareness about the importance of standards in ensuring quality, safety, and reliability.
The event was designed to engage students through interactive and knowledge-based activities focusing on standardization, certification marks, and the role of BIS in national quality assurance. Students actively participated in discussion forum with enthusiasm, demonstrating their understanding of how standards influence products, services, and professional practices in everyday life.
The program encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and practical learning among students. Faculty coordinators guided the participants throughout the event, ensuring smooth conduct and meaningful engagement. The collaboration with IQAC further emphasized the institution’s commitment to quality enhancement and continuous improvement.
Overall, the Standards League was a successful and impactful initiative. It effectively fulfilled the objectives of the BIS Club by promoting awareness of standards and nurturing a quality-conscious mindset among students.

Strength of the Program
The Standards League was an engaging and well-structured activity that effectively promoted awareness about standardization and BIS certification practices. The interactive format encouraged active student participation, teamwork, and knowledge sharing. The collaboration with IQAC strengthened the academic relevance of the program and reinforced quality culture within the institution.
Challenges
Managing time effectively while ensuring equal participation for all students was a minor challenge. Coordinating activities within the scheduled academic hours required careful planning. However, these challenges were efficiently handled through proper organization and faculty support.
Program Outcome
The program enhanced students’ understanding of standards, certification marks, and quality assurance mechanisms. It fostered critical thinking and encouraged students to appreciate the role of BIS in ensuring product safety and reliability. Overall, the event strengthened quality consciousness among participants.
