B.Com Professional Accounting (SFS)

Established in 2019, the Department of B.Com (Professional Accounting) at SDNBVC was the first under the University of Madras to introduce this specialized programme, setting a benchmark in accounting education. The department was launched with the vision of integrating academic learning with professional certification pathways, meeting the growing demand for industry-ready graduates with both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise. Supported by qualified and dedicated faculty members with a strong foundation in commerce and finance, the programme emphasizes academic excellence, employability and holistic growth, preparing students for competitive professional environments.

The department is equipped with modern infrastructure that enhances the learning experience. Smart classrooms with XP Pen digital writing tablets and hand microphones encourage interactive teaching and learning, while computer labs with updated accounting software provide hands-on exposure to professional tools. A distinctive feature of the programme is the mandatory one-month internship, offering students real-world experience and practical insights into the accounting and finance industry. In addition, students gain exposure through guest lectures, industry interactions and value-added certifications from platforms such as Coursera and NPTEL, ensuring their skills remain relevant to industry needs.

The curriculum is uniquely aligned with Chartered Accountancy (CA) preparation, with CA Foundation subjects offered in the first year and CA Intermediate subjects in the subsequent years. In 2024, the department partnered with JK Shah Academy, enabling students to simultaneously prepare for CA examinations while pursuing their degree, ensuring dual qualifications upon graduation. Covering advanced financial accounting, auditing, taxation, and strategic management, the programme equips students with both academic depth and professional competence.
