Master of Social Work (SFS)
The Postgraduate Department of Social Work, established in 2003, offers specializations in Human Resource Management and Medical & Psychiatry, with a mission to blend academic knowledge with practical training. The programme emphasizes professional competence, ethical practice and a commitment to social responsibility, equipping students to address complex social issues with both skill and compassion.
A distinctive feature of the curriculum is the mandatory fieldwork training, where students spend two days each week in professional settings such as industries, hospitals, NGOs and psychiatric institutions. These experiences allow them to translate classroom learning into practice while developing leadership and advocacy skills. In addition, rural camps, study tours, summer placements and block placements further enrich their exposure to diverse communities and work environments. The department fosters student engagement through initiatives such as the Students Participatory Empowerment Forum (SPEF) and the Village Adoption Programme under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) scheme, providing opportunities to organize workshops, outreach programmes, guest lectures and conferences.
The specialization in Human Resource Management prepares students for careers as HR Executives, Welfare Officers and HR Managers in corporate and service sectors, while the Medical & Psychiatry specialization equips graduates to serve as counselors and social workers in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and mental health institutions. Students are also placed in NGOs, research institutions and government projects, reflecting the programme’s wide applicability. With strong faculty guidance, opportunities for professional training through platforms like NPTEL and Coursera, and an active alumni network, the department continues to nurture socially committed and professionally skilled individuals who strive to create positive societal change.
