B.VOC Travel & Tourism (SFS)

The Department of Travel and Tourism was established in the academic year 2020–2021 under the Self-Financed Stream, affiliated with the University of Madras. Since its inception, the department has aimed to prepare students for dynamic careers in travel, tourism, hospitality and entrepreneurship. The programme is an MHRD–UGC sanctioned Vocational Degree aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and the National Occupational Standards (NOS) of the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC). Supported by a dedicated team of faculty, the department provides quality teaching, mentorship and industry-focused guidance, ensuring that students are career-ready upon graduation.

Beyond classroom learning, the department emphasizes skill-based and experiential education. Students are encouraged to take up certified online courses through platforms like Coursera, SWAYAM–MOOCs and NPTEL, to expand their knowledge base and improve employability. Domain-specific training programs such as Global Distribution Systems (Amadeus/Galileo), Airport Ground Service Handling and the IATA Foundation Course further equip them with practical industry expertise. Industrial visits, internships and interactive sessions with professionals from leading companies create opportunities for students to gain real-world insights and build professional networks.

The department enjoys strong industry support from reputed organizations such as ITDC, TTDC, Thomas Cook, SOTC, Madura Travels, Balmer & Lawrie and Akbar Travels. Graduates of the programme pursue diverse career paths as travel agents, tour operators, airline reservation executives, airport ground staff, visa executives, hotel front office professionals, immigration consultants, and entrepreneurs. With additional opportunities in government tourism departments through TNPSC and UPSC examinations, the programme equips students with both the knowledge and adaptability to excel in today’s competitive tourism and hospitality sector.
