B.Sc. Home Science- Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics (SFS)

The Department of B.Sc. Home Science – Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics was established in 2013 under the Self-Financed Stream to address the growing need for qualified professionals in the field of health and nutrition. This three-year undergraduate programme equips students with comprehensive knowledge of Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science. With its evidence-based curriculum, the department emphasizes preventive healthcare and therapeutic nutrition, preparing students to assess dietary needs, plan medical diets and contribute to wellness by preventing and managing diseases through proper nutrition.

Blending theory with practice, the department provides students with opportunities for hands-on learning through well-equipped laboratories and practical sessions. A mandatory one-month internship at multi-speciality hospitals and wellness centres bridges the gap between academics and industry, ensuring professional readiness. Students are also trained to conduct Nutritional Education Programmes in schools and ICDS centres, extending their knowledge to the community. The department actively organizes seminars, workshops and invited talks by distinguished academicians, while encouraging students to present papers at conferences and seminars at the state, national and international levels.

Graduates of the programme are well-prepared for diverse career paths in healthcare, wellness, food and research sectors. They find opportunities as clinical dietitians in hospitals, nutrition consultants in wellness clinics, fitness centres and corporates, or as public health nutritionists in government and NGO sectors. With the rising awareness of healthy living and diet-related diseases, the demand for skilled nutrition professionals continues to expand, making this programme a gateway to meaningful and rewarding careers.
