M.A. English (SFS)

The Post Graduate Department of English was established in 2013 with the purpose of advancing higher education for women and fostering research-oriented thinking. The programme familiarizes students with diverse aspects of literature, including genres, literary schools, movements, authors, cultures, and ideologies. It aims to groom students into well-rounded individuals with critical, inclusive perspectives shaped through literary engagement. The faculty members of the department are substantively qualified, dedicated to sharing their expertise in their areas of specialization and systematically advance themselves by participating and conducting seminars, conferences and workshops, presenting papers and publishing articles. Additionally, the department frequently invites experienced scholars and subject experts to deliver guest lectures for the enrichment of the students.

To enhance learning and professional readiness, the department integrates value-added opportunities such as mandatory summer internships and online courses through platforms like Coursera and NPTEL. These are complemented by seminars, workshops, and intercollegiate events that promote innovation, creativity, and skill development. The curriculum is systematically revised every three years with the guidance of experienced academicians and industry experts, ensuring alignment with contemporary literary trends, theories, and practices. Such a strong syllabus helps students to crack competitive exams like NET and SET as well as help them channelize their career choices in the relevant fields of their interest.

Graduates of the department are prepared for a wide range of careers, not only in teaching but also in publishing, media, advertising, content writing, translation, journalism, and entrepreneurship. Students bring laurels to the department by winning prizes in competitions, conferences, and theatre events, while extensive campus recruitment drives provide promising placement opportunities in educational institutions, publishing houses, corporate offices, and media organizations. The department continues to cultivate voices that question, create, and contribute to the evolving global conversations on literature and society.
