B.A. English (SFS)

The Department of B.A. English (Self-Financed Stream) was established in 2021 with the vision of providing quality education in English language and literature. From its inception, the department has sought to balance classical literary studies with contemporary approaches, fostering critical thinking, effective communication and cultural awareness among students. The programme emphasizes the development of LSRW skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) alongside a deep engagement with texts across genres, periods and cultures. Students are encouraged to explore not only canonical literature but also political, cultural and theoretical readings that expand their perspectives.

Supported by a team of dedicated and qualified faculty members, the department goes beyond the traditional classroom through initiatives that encourage collaboration and creativity. Google classroom, theatrical dramatizations, inter-departmental events like Athena, peer teaching activities, vocabulary enrichment programmes such as Word Boxes and the Mentor-Mentee (peer-mentoring) initiative create a lively academic environment. Students also gain exposure to broader literary traditions and emerging discourses through workshops, invited talks, seminars and literary tours. These opportunities complement the strong academic foundation while cultivating cultural sensitivity and interpretive depth.

The department integrates skill-based learning to prepare students for evolving career demands. Value-added certificate courses, summer internships and online learning platforms such as Coursera and NPTEL enhance professional readiness, while student magazines like Inspiratio and contributions to the college magazine Sparkles nurture creativity and research orientation. Graduates of the programme leave with strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills that open pathways to media, publishing, advertising, education, content creation and digital industries, as well as opportunities for higher education in diverse fields. In just a few years, the B.A. English (SFS) Department has established itself as a vibrant space where academic rigor and cultural expression converge, shaping versatile and future-ready graduates.
