Hindi (SFS)
Established in 1984 under the Self-Finance stream, the Department of Hindi has been offering Part-I Hindi to students across disciplines for over three decades. With around 100 students enrolling every year, the department plays an important role in promoting Hindi as one of India’s official languages among learners from both Hindi-speaking regions and non-Hindi states. The curriculum is designed to strengthen reading, writing and speaking skills, while also integrating the study of literature that reflects cultural, moral and social values. This balanced approach equips students with linguistic proficiency as well as a deeper appreciation of Hindi as a medium of thought and expression.
Learning in the department goes beyond traditional instruction to include engaging activities and interactive pedagogy. Students participate in assignments, seminars, quizzes and presentations to sharpen academic and communication skills. To make learning enjoyable, the department organizes “education through entertainment” initiatives such as puppet shows, dramas, riddles and comic creation, helping non-Hindi students approach the language with enthusiasm and confidence. Guest lectures, workshops and department-level competitions further provide exposure, creativity and skill enhancement.
By fostering both language competence and cultural awareness, the Department of Hindi prepares students to apply their knowledge meaningfully in academic, social and professional contexts. Graduates benefit from improved communication and critical thinking skills, while their grounding in literature nurtures ethical reflection and creativity. Proficiency in Hindi also opens diverse career pathways in education, media, translation, cultural organizations and public service, making the department a vital contributor to students’ holistic growth and future opportunities.
