Department Highlights

Established in 2003, the Department of Master of Social Work has evolved into a dynamic academic and community-oriented centre, committed to nurturing competent, ethical, and socially responsible professionals. The department offers two major specializations:

  • Medical and Psychiatric Social Work

  • Human Resource Management

The programme integrates classroom learning with intensive fieldwork, research exposure, and community engagement to ensure holistic professional development. Students receive hands-on training through village adoption programmes, NGO collaborations, internships, workshops, conferences, and awareness campaigns.

Community Engagement & Village Adoption

As part of its rural outreach and social responsibility initiatives, the department has adopted five villages under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) scheme, located in:

  • Chengalpattu District

  • Kothimangalam Taluk

  • Palur Taluk

Through this initiative, students actively participate in need-based interventions, surveys, awareness programmes, and rural development activities.

Academic Enrichment & Professional Exposure

The department provides platforms for academic excellence through:

  • Guest lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences

  • Field-based learning and NGO collaborations

  • Volunteering programmes and social awareness campaigns

  • Research-oriented workshops and skill-development programmes

These initiatives enhance students’ theoretical understanding, professional competence, leadership abilities, and ethical sensitivity.

Academic & Competitive Achievements

  • Diploma Programme – Mental Health & Well-being of Vulnerable Children
    Students Yogalakshmi, Durga Devi T, Pavithra, and Prashitha (Batch 2023) successfully completed the Diploma Training Programme, strengthening skills in child protection, emotional support, and case management.

  • Seminar Competition – Kanchi Kamakshi Child Trust Hospital
    Students Suriya T, Vinothini, Meenakshi, and Banupriya secured Third Prize.

  • Inter-Department Competition – “Fame the Game”
    Students Aruni, Flarance, Vishal Ashwitha, Bhoomika, and Kanimozhi won Second Prize.

  • Zyphara – Inter-Department Competition
    Students Aruni and Vishal Ashwitha secured Third Prize.

  • BIS Club Competition
    Student Bhoomika secured Fourth Prize.

  • Republic Day Dance Competition
    Students Santhiya, Vinodhini, Yogalakshimi, Suriya T, Avathika, and Banupriya secured Third Prize.

  • Inter-College Cultural Fest – Hindustan College
    Students Pavithra, Devishri, Durga Devi, and Soorya P.V won Second Prize.
