Intellectual Property Right Awareness Programme

The CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR-CLRI), Chennai, CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC) and CSIR Madras Complex (CSIR-CMC), Chennai organized the ‘National Intellectual Property Right Festival’–3M (Mind to Market Management) for ATMANIRBHARATA) in the Triple Helix Auditorium, CSIR-CLRI from July 17 – 20, 2023. Dr. Prameena Sheeja, Department of Environmental Science organized the event for the PG students of SDNB Vaishnav College for Women on 20.7.2023. The resource person, Shri M. Suthakar Associate Partner & Patents, LexOrbis detailed about the ‘Do’s & Don’ts before filing a Patent Application programme’. He elaborated about the Intellectual property and its types. He also explained about copy right, patent and trade marks and also stressed about the importance of filing a patent. He gave a detailed note on the steps to write an Invention disclosure. The students were enlightened with the knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and statistical tools.

Dr. A. Tamil Selvi, Principal Scientist elaborated the opportunities of research in various reputed Institutes. She also guided the students regarding internships and projects. The students interacted and gained knowledge.

It was followed by lab visit where students visited the Biotechnology and Tannery laboratories. The students learnt about the various techniques and the types of leather produced in the tannery process.

The programme was attended and benefitted by 88 PG students from all the Departments. The students actively partcipated and received the cerificates. Dr. Prameena Sheeja J.L. and Dr. Indira, R Department of Chemistry accompanied the students.

Workshop Report – Sustainable Treatment of Organic fractions of Municipal Solid Waste for Smart Cities

The CSIR – Central Leather Research Institute organised a dissemination workshop on “Sustainable Treatment of Organic fractions of Municipal Solid Waste for Smart Cities” under Indo-German collaboration projects on 19.7.2023. Dr.K.J.Sreeram, Director, CLRI welcomed the gathering and Dr. S. V. Srinivasan gave a brief introduction about the workshop. Dr. Kurien Joseph, Director, Centre for Climate change, Anna University delivered a lecture on the ‘Challenges of Municipal solid waste management’.

This session is followed by Dr. Indumathi M Nambi, Professor, IIT, Chennai presented about the technology available for waste management. Then Dr. Dirk Weichgrebe, Lebniz University, Germany shared his experience in IGSTC projects on ‘Smart City concepts for treatment and resource recovery from Municipal Organic wastes’.

 

In the afternoon, we have visited the pilot plants of biogas, pyrasol and biochar and the processes were demonstrated.The operation of waste treatment plant of Municipal Solid waste management was presented by Ramky Enviro Engineers and B-Sustain Energy products Pvt Ltd.

People from various reputed Organizations and Colleges attended this programme and interacted with the delegates and gained knowledge. One participant from each Organization was selected for this workshop. Dr. Prameena Sheeja J.L., Department of Environmental Science, SDNB Vaishnav College for Women attended the workshop and awarded the certificate.

National Expo on Eco – alternatives to banned single-use plastics items and Conference of Startups -2022, Chennai Trade centre

OBJECTIVES:

          The aim of this expo is to provide an opportunity to the manufacturers to showcase their products and to make the public aware of the various substitutes available for the banned Single Use Plastic, said TNPCB release.

OUTCOME:

More than 30 students have benefited by gaining the knowledge about various substitutes available for the banned Single Use Plastic as well as known the various eco-Alternative products.

Artificial Nest making – (A Sparrow Conservation Project)

OBJECTIVES:

This project aims at estimating the population of House Sparrows in Kannur district

and also at evaluating the status and threats faced by these birds.

                This is project aims at estimating the population of house sparrow and also evaluating the status and threats faced by these birds. It was organized by a Resource Person Mr.D.Ganeshan, persident- Koodugal, Environmentalist, Domain specialist, CODE Technology Pvt LTd.  MoU has been signed with Koodugal Trust.

OUTCOME:

More than 100 students have benefited by gaining the knowledge on webinar the conservation issues of sparrows and measures to be taken to protect them and also conducted a workshop in which hands-on training was given to our students to build 100 artificial sparrow nests for the house sparrows. From this students have learned by providing a safe space for sparrows to roost and nest, and providing them food and water, and so on.

WORKSHOP ON AGRICULTURE – LEARNING THROUGH THE GARDEN

OBJECTIVES:

                One day workshop was held in community garden at Adyar. In the first session of this workshop is focusing on how compost can have a role in helping feed the world, by making our soil healthier which produces healthier food. In the second session generating awareness by handing over of bags for compostable waste collection to nearby vendors. In the third session –showed number of arts done by composted waste and finally students learned beds creation and planting.

OUTCOME:

More than 20 students have participated actively involved and learnt about the cultivation in garden as well as composting awareness generating activity.

sdnb Environ Club

“Environ Club” was inaugurated on 20/09/2018 with the traditional lighting up of the lamp followed by prayer in the Mini Auditorium at 11a.m. Dr. P. Venkatesan, the chief guest, is a Retired Associate Professor of the Department of Zoology, Loyola College, Chennai spoke about several possible measures to control environmental pollution and noise pollution. He mentioned the role of three types of mosquitoes – Aedes, Cedar and Anopheles. He explained the mode of their reproduction and infection. He gave directions about the types of garbages and how to properly use them. He also spoke about adulteration of milk and its hazardous effect on human health. He also insisted that the students should try making compost using kitchen waste and to set up a small kitchen garden.

Environ Club Activity 2018 – 2019

As a part of Environ Club activity, students participated in an Intercollegiate Competition held at Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women (S.I.E.T.) on 18/02/2019. Three out of four students participated in Quiz Competition and one student participated in Photography. Madhumitha, T., second year student of Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology won the first prize in Photography.

Ten student members of Environ Club from various Departments of the College attended a Botanical Exhibition on 01/03/2019 conducted by Madras Christian College.
